Below are the awards for the best works made in each category as well as Best in Show. Congratulations to the artists selected!

BEST IN SHOW

Fowl

Anna Wright

Watercolor

"I made this work as part of my series of farm animal paintings. In it, I have been experimenting with my application of watercolors and inks. I like how I was able to contrast the colors and textures of the guinea fowl."

BEST OF DRAWING

Value Study

Olivia Tucker

Charcoal and Conte on Black Paper

"While I typically focus on creating the darker shadows then go in to create the lighter values when drawing the figure, but I was challenged in my figure drawing class to work from a black paper base so I would already have my darkest shadows and would have to build the highlights."

Honeybee

Alexis Kinnison

Sharpie and Pen on Bristol

"I chose to create a bee to give awareness to the decline in their population. Bees are the most effective pollinators, and this bee is seen doing so. The bee being created through pointillism adds an elegance that can draw the eye through the bee."

BEST OF PAINTING

Reveal

Olivia Tucker

Acrylic Paint on Paper

"We believe that we have cover up our weakness because we don’t want to appear sensitive, but the more you learn to execute yourself and become okay with revaluing your true self."

BEST OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Songbird

Alexis Kinnison

Photograph

"I heard the bird before I saw it resting in the bush. The bush is very tall with many branches for the bird to hide in. In order to take this picture, I had to find the perfect angle where the bird could be seen fully through the twigs. The angle I captured encased the bird in an elegant knot of nature."

BEST OF DIGITAL

Iceland Poster

Olga Tomescu

Digital

"Iceland is a small, beautiful country. I am amazed by its nature. Walking on glaciers and huge icebergs that float on the water; touching the black sand and watching the Northern Lights in a beautiful cold night winter made me create this travel poster for Iceland. This digital art was created with straight and curvy lines. The most unique element in this artwork is that I used the same brushwork to define the ice, waves of the water, the lights, and highlights on the mountain and the sky. The Northern Lights element was created by layers over layers of color with a radial blur, while for Iceland title I used its original font."

BEST OF FIGURE

Kathy

Anna Wright

Water-soluble Paints on Hand-Stretched Canvas.

"I am quite proud of this piece because It is one of my few figure works where I think I captured the unique facial features of the model. I also enjoyed painting it. I was able to combine oil painting with my love for watercolors, and create a piece that has a variety of textures for the eye."

BEST OF SCULPTURE

My Shoes

Olivia Tucker

Paper String, Cardboard, Comic Book Cutouts

"In Design 3 I had to find a way to describe who I am through shoes, so I went with the two main things people associate me with; comic books and flip flops. Flips flops have been my go-to shoes for them being easy to wear and comfortable. I then gave them a comic book theme because comics have been an important part of my life, from helping me connect with people to fueling my creativity."
